De flesta känner till märkeskläder som Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime och Athleta. alla en del av Donald Fishers The Gap som grundades 1969 i San Francisco.
Donald och hand fru Doris var konstintresserade och på kort tid skapade de USA:s största moderna konstsamling. Den samlingen skänktes förra året till San Franciscos Moderna Museum SFMOMA.

SFMOMA gets Fisher art collection. Partnership with family moves museum to forefront
Doris and Donald Fisher have found a home for their monumental art collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art that will keep it in the city and elevate SFMOMA to one of the world’s leading showplaces of late 20th century art.
A partnership agreement between the Fishers and the museum would bring under SFMOMA’s roof key works by artists such as Andy Warhol, Cy Twombly, Richard Serra, Roy Lichtenstein, Alexander Calder, Ellsworth Kelly, Willem de Kooning, Richard Diebenkorn and Chuck Close. Market prices for such works make them unobtainable by museums except by donation. Even in today’s lukewarm art economy, the Fisher collection probably would be appraised in nine figures.
Nu har SFMOMA som museet kallas i folkmun, kontraktat med det norska arkitektföretagetSnøhetta för att bygga ett dramatiskt annex till SFMOMA för Fisher-samlingen.
John King skriver i San Francisco Chronicle om Snøhetta to design SFMOMA’s vast new wing
Snøhetta, the architecture firm designing the museum at the World Trade Center site, is the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s choice to design its new wing – a $250 million expansion likely to be the city’s largest private project between now and the scheduled opening in 2016. The new wing will add roughly 160,000 square feet to SFMOMA’s brick-clad home facing Yerba Buena Gardens.
Det här är utomordentligt positivt och kommer att göra SFMOMA till ett av USA:s och världens viktigaste moderna museer.
